Hermeneutics (July-August 2009)

July- August 2009 will be a study in Hermeneutics.

2 Timothy 2:15 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.”

Hermeneutics is the science of interpretation. The reason we chose this as our first endeavor is because the facilitators agreed that it is utterly foundational. We believe that the scriptures are sweet. They are “. . .more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.” (Psalm 19:10) We have found life in them and we want to pass along the tools that we use. Our hermeneutical tools are the most used (and rewarding) tools in our theological toolbox. The study of scripture is a hands-on art and science. We believe that the best training we can give will be through exercises and discussions. This might make it a more intensive 8 weeks.

What we have planned:

We’ve selected a few introductory books.

We plan on reading them and hosting a discussion / training session on July 22nd.

We are also ready to come along side everyone who desires it. There are four facilitators and we would love to work alongside you personally. If you would like to meet with one of us send us an email. Actually, send us an email either way. We want to know if this is useful to anyone.

July 1-8 purchase the books

July 9-22 read, study, learn (independently)

July 22 Gathering at Josh Flood’s Home (details to follow)

August will spend reading and doing exercises.
